As part of its commitment to environmental conservation, the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) has donated 5,000 seedlings to support the ongoing Kaptagat Restoration and Livelihoods Programme. This initiative is a cornerstone of efforts to restore the Kaptagat landscape, which forms part of the Elgeyo Hills-Cherangany ecosystem—an area vital for its biodiversity, water resources, and as a carbon sink. The donated seedlings will contribute directly to reforestation activities, helping to reverse land degradation, enhance ecological resilience, and secure ecosystem services for local communities
The Kaptagat Restoration and Livelihoods Programme brings together government agencies, community organizations, and development partners in a multi-sectoral approach to landscape restoration. By increasing tree cover and promoting climate-smart agriculture, the programme not only addresses pressing environmental challenges but also supports improved livelihoods for residents through income-generating activities and better access to resources. KDC’s contribution of seedlings underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving Kenya’s ambitious reforestation targets and building a sustainable future for the region.
